Food 🥘

Traditional Montenegrin cuisine is diverse and influenced by Mediterranean, Balkan, and Eastern European culinary traditions. Here are some traditional Montenegrin dishes and foods you might want to try:

  • Njeguški pršut: This is a famous Montenegrin prosciutto from Njeguši village, air-dried and thinly sliced. It's often served with cheese and olives.

  • Kačamak: A traditional Montenegrin dish made from cornmeal and potatoes, often served with cheese and cream.

  • Cicvara: White boiled potatoes and sour milk are usually served with this dish. Young cow's cheese or cream is mixed with flour until the fat is released. It is a dish with a high energy value and a pleasant taste - it literally melts in your mouth.

  • Popeci: An interestingly arranged dish; a piece of cheese or aged cream and a piece of prosciutto are wrapped in a veal steak, further frying and frying results in an excellent dish with a juicy and rich interior and a tasty and crunchy exterior.

  • Ćevapi: Grilled minced meat (usually a mixture of beef and lamb) formed into small sausages. They are served with flatbread and often accompanied by onions and a red pepper-based condiment called ajvar.

  • Pljeskavica: A large, flat burger patty made from minced meat (usually beef and pork) and spices, often served in a bun with various toppings and condiments.

  • Pita sa sirom: A cheese pie, similar to Greek spanakopita, made with layers of dough and cheese.

  • Gulaš (Goulash): A soup of meat and vegetables usually seasoned with paprika and other spices. Originally Hungarian meal.

  • Pasulj (beans): A mix of beans typically cooked in pork fat.

You can try good gulaš and pasulj in Bastion 3 restaurant near the North entrance.

  • Cesarica - small local restaurant for seafood. Our favorite - squids or sea bass (brancin).

  • Marshall's gelato - be sure to try salted pistachio and raspberry.

  • Tanjga grill - small grill offering great meat at acceptable prices. Good for takeaway options or quick eat. Can be very crowded. Our favorite - chicken leg (batak).
